the photo, rather than reminding us what Jackson looked like at one moment, just tells us he's gone.

Club . Gossip Girl
The Memory Keeper's Daughter [pt: Guardião de Memórias] is a book that always caught my attention by its cover and name. After all, guardian is a word that refers to the puzzles, secrets and everyone likes it, hum?

The issue is that in each purchase of books, I found another book that drew more attention or that sale seduced me and the purchase was postponed and postponed. This went on till my aunt comment about a book with an house on the cover that my cousin had bought. With the loan of the book in hand, I had to wait for the long April's holiday to read it [yes, this post is one of the delay group to be done].

If it was worth the wait? Well...

The book tells the story of a doctor who makes the childbirth of his young wife during a blizzard. In 1964 there was no ultrasound, so it was with surprise that he realized he was the father of twins: an healthy boy and a girl with Down syndrome. Involved with the terror of having to deal again with a relative with cardiovascular problems, he makes a choice that changes the life of his family. David asks Caroline, his secretary and nurse, to take the girl to an asylum and tells Norah, his wife, the daughter died in childbirth.

The book contains the twenty-four years after the fateful day and, contrary to expected to read the back cover, there is no drama, no blubber, no involvement. It isn't really disappointing, but it isn't a book that touches the reader. It's a story that you could learn from a documentary or even the nightly TV newscast. Reasonable book, nothing more than that.

There is a movie made for TV based on this novel. Dermot Mulroney plays David Henry [I love this man, so, of course, I'll watch the movie].
